This geologically significant mountain range and dense forest stretching across most of the western of Cyprus reaches up to 1.952 meters at Mount Olympus its highest peak.
 
Known as much for its charming mountain villages perched between terraced hill slopes as its churches and monasteries, the area attracts sports enthusiasts and nature loves the year round.No less than nine Byzantine churches in the Troodos mountains are included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage due to their amazing architecture, icons and frescoes. Well planned scenic nature walks and cycling permit exploration of the rare flora, geology, ecology and landscape. The higher slopes are by skiers in the winter months.
 
Platres and Kakopetria are pretty mountain resorts. Phini village is known for it’s red clay pottery and the 15th century, reputedly haunted, monastery of Ayii Anargyri. Omodos village is remembered for its vineyards, lace and the Monastery of Stavros. The largest and most famous of the monasteries is Kykko. 20 Km from Platres you can find the monastery Trooditissa.
